Flagship Open and Silent Pro FootGolf Tournament attracts amateur players

MCK School for the Deaf claimed the best-performing school based on their combined team points.

FootGolf South Africa once again combined efforts with Disabled Youth South Africa to host a Flagship Open and Silent Pro FootGolf Tournament on February 24 at the Urban Life Church FootGolf Course in Midrand.

The Silent Pro Tournament saw learners with impaired hearing from MCK Special School for the Deaf, Trans Oranje School for the Deaf, and Sizwile School for the Deaf, to name a few, showcasing their abilities on a FootGolf Course.

The competition was fierce and after a heated 9-hole tournament, Junior Mphoti emerged as the winner in the male learner’s category, with Mecaylon Fynn coming in second and Twinkle Mogola taking the third position.

In the female learner’s category, Zandile Mhlungu emerged victorious, with Dineo Ramokgopa coming in second, and Buhle Khonza taking the third position after a tie-breaker playoff against Sharlotte Magoya.

Deputy president of FootGolf SA Kgwadu Mohale expressed his gratitude to the schools’ leadership and stakeholders for their continued support and help in growing FootGolf in the country.

“When we hosted the inaugural Silent FootGolf Tournament to observe Deaf Awareness Month in September last year, we never would have imagined that this initiative would grow this quickly and be embraced with such open arms,” said Mohale.

Apart from the Silent Pro Tournament, there was also an 18-hole game in which amateur and professional FootGolfers participated to improve their current local ranking.

In the men’s category of the Flagship Open event, Vincent Mabusela finished first, Mpho Mbele came in second followed by Ndumiso Nkoana in third place.

In the senior men’s category, Jeffrey Motshaba finished in first place, followed by Kekeletso Moalosi and Thomas Samons in third.
The women’s category saw the top three of Vuyiswa Ntombela, Sesebo Mokhopa and Kefilwe Mphake respectively.
Khutsafalo Tawana, Busisiwe Silaluke and Puleng Mofokeng occupied the podium in the senior women’s category.
FootGolf SA will be sending three players to the French Open Masters to be held from 20–23 June next year.
