Hennie du Toit appointed principal of Glen Austin High School

Glen Austin High School CEO Shadi Laka says the board has confidence in Hennie du Toit and will give him all the support he needs to produce academic excellence.

Hennie du Toit, the Glen Austin High School’s acting principal, has been appointed permanently after a year in the acting role.

The announcement was made by the school CEO Shadi Laka at the school’s Top Achiever Awards ceremony on February 16 to the sounds of jubilation during the assembly.

Du Toit has a long history with the school, having served as HOD from 2017 and deputy principal from 2019. He was appointed as acting principal for a ‘determined period’ when then-principal Berthold Moyo left the position vacant in May last year.

Making the announcement Laka said the board has great confidence in du Toit considering his experience, professionalism, and the track record he has displayed over the years.
“With a robust resume, track record of outstanding results, and proven ability to work with people, we are delighted to confirm Hennie du Toit as the permanent principal of our beloved school. I am confident that together we can bring the school forward and reach new heights. Again, congratulations du Toit we believe in you, I wish you great success and have the utmost confidence in your leadership,” said Laka.

She said after a rigorous interview process, the board has decided to confirm and congratulate Cephas Kachana on his appointment as the acting deputy principal.
Laka added that Kachana will be working closely with du Toit ushering in an era of discipline, academic excellence, and outstanding stakeholder relations.

Du Toit said he looks forward to leading the school, together with his team, to ensure academic achievement, continuity, good results in the National Senior Certificate exams for matric learners, and improved registration numbers for the 2025 academic year.

“Together with my management team, we will continue to strive to improve academic performance, not only for Grade 12 learners but all learners. We will do this in line with our vision and mission – a holistic approach so that learners can reach their full potential, not only academically, but also as well-rounded and balanced individuals,” said du Toit.

He said he will also be working closely with the board to improve facilities, including solar power implementation and improved security systems.

“I strongly believe in constructive discipline that is corrective by nature and instils self-discipline which leads to good morals and values. I want learners to complete their high school careers here, not only with academic knowledge but also knowledge about life itself.”
