Vorna Valley netball star shares her session with local team

Netball sensation Didintle Keebine says she will be eager to impart some of her netball knowledge to the up-and-coming stars from the Midrand Royals netball team.

Didintle Keebine (27) did not only go to the Midrand Royals netball team to take players through their paces.

She was also tasked with giving the Class of 2023 matriculants words of advice as they now explore the adult world of work in terms of what they want to study and become.

Keebine led the training session of the team in Sagewood where she brought a wealth of experience to the session. She has represented South Africa in the FAST5 netball team in New Zealand, where they finished second.

She said U19 coach Tshepang Malapile called her and asked if she could come through for a day. “We’d been planning to do this last year, but it was not possible because of my busy schedule as I am also a player. However, we found a suitable date, which was the first training session for the Midrand Royals for 2024. I showed the team a ball drill that they will always remember and most importantly, shared a few words of encouragement with the matrics of 2023 who will be going to varsity this year,” said Keebine.

Keebine began with the juniors – exploring skills development, speed and agility, ending the session with a defensive drill.

Asked for her thoughts about the overall assessment of the team and the training session, Keebine said, there is potential in the team. “I witnessed some great passes, beautiful drives, and some speed that one can work with. Yes, there’s potential, but a lot of work still needs to be done. Their awareness as well as their passes needs to be improved as well.”

Keebine said she would be honoured if the club would have her leading some sessions in her spare time.

She concluded that she was left in awe by the team’s ability to adapt and have continuous communication.
