Super Falcons technical director cries foul over remaining fixtures

Super Falcons founder and technical director believes all the teams need to be given a fair chance to complete the season and see who will prevail champions.

Super Falcons founder and technical director Bob Maredi is irate over his team’s outstanding fixtures in the Women’s Regional League.

Maredi, a former Midrand Local Football Association chairperson, said Falcons had a total of five outstanding games to complete the 2023/24 season. Falcons, known as Queens of the Sky, is third on the log standing with 28 points from 13 games. They trail Dynasty Ladies who are on the summit of the log by 12 points.

According to Maredi, Safa Johannesburg CEO Colin Jones had called a meeting in August last year to discuss logs, results and outstanding games.

“All teams that attended submitted their outstanding games which were all accepted as the true reflection of what was presented. I was expecting outstanding games to kick off from August into September last year. Daily, I have been checking both MySafa portal and my emails for any communication relating to outstanding games, to date there was nothing and no other communication whatsoever,” said Maredi.

After not getting a response from Jones, Maredi sent him a letter in November inquiring about the outstanding fixtures but was yet to receive a response.

He said he was dismayed when he only received the news this week from the team’s coach that the provincial play-offs were already taking place when his team had yet to complete their fixtures.

In a follow-up letter to Jones, Maredi said, “This is unfair treatment to us. I want to know how you arrived at this decision and with whom. To me, this feels like a joke and no one is taking women’s football seriously. I don’t know if you are aware of the amount of transport money, efforts and time we invest in this. We need an explanation, hope you will find the above in order.”
Jones was sent an email by the Midrand Reporter on January 3, asking him when the outstanding fixtures would be played and why Dynasty Ladies had played in the playoffs when the league games were not fully completed.

Despite a WhatsApp reminder on January 5, Jones had not responded at the time of going to print.
