Sector 2 Crime Forum elections done and dusted

Had the Sector 2 Crime Forum elections not been concluded the scheduled Midrand CPF AGM might not have taken place.

The Midrand Sector 2 Crime Forum elections finally took place after being postponed twice.

The elections were postponed on October 25 and November 8, which was likely going to affect the AGM of the Midrand CPF on November 15.

The rescheduling on October 25 was due to poor attendance from the public which did not meet the required 50% to make a quorum according to their constitution. The second postponement on November 8 was triggered by community members and ward councillor Annette Deppe expressing displeasure with only the CPF exco being allowed to vote for the crime forum committee.

The meeting on November 13 was led by the CPF chairperson Steven Johnson and Vispol Commander, Colonel Gonafeelan Micah Govender.
Thavashan Govender was elected as the chairperson by unanimous decision. This follows the absence of his opponent, Nolan Naidoo, who was not present.

Govender will be assisted by Johan Haupt as the deputy chairperson while Marianne Nel retains her secretary position. Neels Conradie will serve as Nel’s deputy secretary.
The public relations officer remains vacant as there was no nomination for it. Dale Knezovich will be the patrol coordinator for the sector.

Govender said he was confident that he and his executive will be an asset to this community. “Our priority is to assist in eliminating the crime in this area, thus creating a community where the residents live in peace and harmony. As the executive, we would like to start this off as a fresh new project that needs a lot of attention and protection. We want to help our community to be free of this crime that we face every day,” said Govender.

He said his message to the residents would be one of hope where they will strive to help create a community where the residents feel safe in their homes, the cars and with their families in their daily lives.

“To make this community a better, safe place to live in. We should not be living in fear. Also, we will be holding an exco meeting, so the structure will be changing in terms of CPF Provincially, and after this meeting, I will sit with the committee and work around this for the best possible way going forward.”

However, before the elections, two communities requested that a signed copy of the Sector 2 constitution be tabled before the elections could continue.
They were promised that the signed one would be shared with them via community WhatsApp groups.

Had the elections not been finalised by November 13, they were going to affect the Midrand CPF AGM scheduled for November 15.
They were also going to negatively the already concluded elections of the other Sector Crime Forum who have already concluded their elections.
