Ria Sebetsa urges residents to caution of the recent increase of break-ins in Midrand

Residents of Midrand are being urged to take extra precautions following a recent increase in break-ins in the area.

Residents of Midrand are being urged to take extra precautions following a recent increase in break-ins in the area.

CEO of Ria Sebetsa Security Services, Danny Maduray, has spoken out about the ongoing issue, which he says has been present for a very long time.

According to Maduray, criminals are targeting vulnerable premises with little or no security in place, and these incidents cannot be linked to specific areas, ‘so it is essential for all residents to stay vigilant’.

The suspects are often armed and dangerous, using a variety of tactics to gain access to the premises, such as using ladders or belongings lying around the premises.

They can easily navigate electrified fencing by hanging tree branches, and using branches shaped like forks or rubber mats to cover the wires.

“Criminals also take advantage of load shedding to carry out their illegal activities, which has become a growing concern in South Africa,” Maduray explained.

To counter this, Ria Sebetsa and Law Enforcement have increased their overall visibility and launched special operations.

However, these incidents are unpredictable and can occur at any time, despite the extra vigilance.

To ensure the safety of residents, Maduray advises setting up reliable security systems linked to the 24/7 control room for quick and effective armed response.

In addition, snatch and grabs, remote jamming and hijacking have become more common in Midrand lately. A high number of business robberies are occurring as well, according to Maduray.

“There is no doubt that crime will increase as we approach the festive season. It is always important for Midrand residents to take preventative measures and be vigilant.”

There are several types of security systems offered by Ria Sebetsa, including alarms, CCTV systems, and electric fencing to name a few.
