The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall students dress for success

Dressing appropriately can have a significant impact on how individuals are perceived in the workplace.

There was no doubt that the IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall students’ Dress for Success event was a success and lived up to the students’ expectations.

The event was aimed at teaching students about the importance of dressing appropriately, especially as they prepare to enter the workforce.

Organised by the campus Career Centre committee, the students participated with great enthusiasm.

It covered various aspects of dressing etiquette, such as what to wear to an interview, what to wear to a business networking event, what to wear to a corporate office environment, and what not to wear to the above.

Luca-Filipe De Castro Loureiro, a third-year Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurship student, participated in Dress for Success because he found it engaging and an excellent opportunity to showcase appropriate dress codes for business networking.

“Walking on the red carpet made me feel anxious but also good because my efforts to dress the way I did in my suit were acknowledged. I decided to dress the way I did because it is the typical way to dress to impress. A suit also made me feel confident and ready to form business partnerships. Winning in the business networking category was the highlight of the event for me,” said Loureiro.

According to the campus Career Centre coordinator, Nomcebo Langa, dressing appropriately can have a significant impact on how individuals are perceived in the workplace.

“It is not just about looking good but also about presenting oneself in a professional manner,” said Langa.

The campus Career Centre committee plans to organise similar events in the future, as it believes that preparing students for the workplace involves more than just career counselling and resume building.
