Noordwyk family robbed by about 10 men

About 10 robbers ambushed a Noordwyk mother with her three daughters, hijacked their car and made off with R15 000.

A distraught mother from Noordwyk urged residents to be on the lookout and help her recover her hijacked Nissan Tiida.

The victim needs a vehicle because she runs errands to earn money.
The incident occurred when about seven to 10 men ambushed the woman on Cedar Street at about 20:10 on September 14 and robbed her and her daughters at gunpoint.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim said the robbers took her personal belongings including cellphones (Samsung A24, iPhone 6 and Hisense E31), bank cards and R15 000 cash which was sent by her husband for one of their children’s birthday. She said she had a further R1 500 which was also taken.
The woman said the robbers were travelling in a white bakkie which they had passed on the way.

“After parking in front of my gate, trying to open the padlock and enter the yard, one guy appeared at the driver’s window and ordered me to open the car while holding the gun. Shortly after that, the other guys came and I had to calculate the risk of us being hurt or even shot so I obliged,” said the victim.
She added they were ordered to lie face down.

District police spokesperson Captain Jeff Phora confirmed the incident and said they were in hot pursuit of the suspects. “Joburg police are following leads… Police can further confirm that personal belongings to the value of R90 000 were allegedly taken by the suspects during the robbery,” said Phora. He added that no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Phora appeals to members of the community to come forth with information if they witnessed the incident.
