SPARK Carlswald learner wins Math Whizz held at the school

SPARK Carlsawald assistant principal Lesedi Mangwane said they had over 1 000 learners from other SPARK's schools to ten and eventually the two winners.

A Grade 7 learner from SPARK Carlswald, S’qalo Mpanza was announced as the school’s overall winner of the Math Whizz 2023 competition.

He was joined by Owenkosi Ntombela from SPARK Kempton Park in the podium finish as they were both in a tie. The competition sought to put the numbers’ wizards through their paces in a bid to find the top one among the schools.

In the final leg of the competition held at Carlswald on September 4, other participating schools included SPARK Bramley, Cresta, Theresa Park, Rosslyn Hub and Turffontein.
About ten learners went through to the final before S’qalo and Owenkosi were announced as winners.

S’qalo said he was proud to have represented his school well since the finals were held in his backyard.
“I feel very good to have made my school, teachers and parents proud of the achievement. What I have learned from the competition is to never give up and keep trying by doing your utmost best,” said S’qalo.

Owenkosi shared the same sentiments as his peer and added that, for him, the fun part about the competition was going all the way to the finals.
“During this competition, my mom motivated me to work hard because she said the competition might open many doors for me in the future. And I worked hard to be here today,” added Owenkosi.

He said young learners must speak to their parents and always seek advice from them.
SPARK Carlsawald assistant principal Lesedi Mangwane said: “Today we were celebrating our learners who did well in this competition. We have had over 1,000 learners from other schools to eventually ten and now the winners.”

Mangwane said her biggest takeaway from the competition was that the learners who put in more effort, are rewarded and results will be even greater.
