‘Hit-men’ shoot community leader with 20 shots

Gauteng provincial police are looking for three suspects who killed a community leader in broad daylight with 20 gun shots.

Gauteng provincial police are in hot pursuit of three suspects who shot a community leader 20 timess in broad daylight and left him dead in Kaalfontein, Midrand.

He was ambushed by the trio on July 7 around 13:00 near a petrol garage in Kaalfontein shortly after a meeting he had attended at the local school.
Sipho Masuku (52) was a resident of Extension 7B in Kaalfontein. He was a community activist assisting communities with service delivery and social issues such as ensuring that those in need of social services were receiving them.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said, “Three people, without saying a thing, shot him. We are unable to speculate on what was transpiring. The investigation will reveal that and anything else. At the moment no one has been arrested,” said Masondo.

When asked if the authorities’ preliminary investigation has revealed the motive behind this killing, Mawela said, “Motive is not known yet”. He said the police were investigating a case of murder which will also reveal the motive of Masuku’s killing.

When the paper contacted the Ward 92 councillor Charmaine Ngoepe, she said, “I can’t speak on that matter as it is a matter of police investigation.”
Midrand Reporter’s attempts to trace Masuku’s family proved futile as no one was willing to talk to the paper.
