Local NPOs receive basic needs donation from Midrand SAPS
Local NPOs had a great day celebrating Mandela Day with SAPS members.
The Midrand Police Station in collaboration with dedicated NPOs and other officials organised an inspiring 67-minute Mandela Day drive aimed at addressing essential needs in the community.
One of the primary focuses was to address the lack of access to basic hygiene products and sanitary pads, especially among vulnerable communities. Lack of proper hygiene facilities and essential items can have severe consequences on the health and dignity of individuals, particularly young girls and women. Through generous donations from local businesses and compassionate citizens, the initiative managed to collect an impressive array of hygiene products and sanitary pads.
The police were supported by JMPD officers Mbokoda Douglas and Sylvia Masombuka; district police’s Sergeant Phumi Kraai and Sergeant Bafana Ndimande; social worker Nozuko Mashiyi, Sector 3 forum chairperson Malvin Maphiri, Ward 110 councillor Angie Mphago; and community members.
The team donated the goods to Tumelo Home, New Life Centre, Yenzani Children’s Home, and Cluny Farm.
Alice Meiring, from the Youth for Human Rights organisation sponsored by the Church of Scientology, said she was very proud to be part of this great movement, and happy that the community came through to supply these items to the homes.
Mandela Day holds a special place in South Africa’s heart as it pays homage to the late Nelson Mandela. In his honour, the nation observes the day on July 18 each year, encouraging citizens to spend 67 minutes of their time on initiatives aimed at making a positive impact on society.
