Lesego Boya shares her pageant journey
A young model won the Miss Butterfly Award when she represented Gauteng in the Miss Inspire South Africa pageant.
Lesego Boya is a 25-year-old aspiring economist, and philanthropist at heart with multiple pageant titles. Boya started modelling when she was 14 years old when she participated in the school’s pageant believing it will be an escape tool for her, as she is an introvert.
“I had low self-esteem and was very shy. I entered a school competition to prove that I was good enough. I wanted to be able to communicate and interact with people around me,” Boya said.
Boya participated in the Miss Inspire South Africa pageant where she represented Gauteng and won the Miss Butterfly Award.
She said she was persuaded by people around her that with her body and beauty, she can do well in pageants. “I gave this industry a chance because I also wanted to tap out of my comfort zone as a shy girl who couldn’t even speak in front of people or rather make friends,” Boya said.
Every journey has challenges. Her challenges in the industry included struggling to get enough support, and funds to help with all her pageant needs.
Boya said her experience in modelling is amazing, as she is on a journey to become who she always wished to be.
“I want to be the best version of myself, and a relatable role model to many,” said Boya.
Boya said she received a lot of opportunities to work with brands as a model, and that helps grow her profile. She said this has been a great initiative for her to work with the community services she participates in.
Boya is also involved in different community developments, mentorship programmes and pageant coordinating.
Currently, she holds the title of the first runner-up of Miss Limpopo Province, and her words of affirmation are “If you weren’t capable, the opportunity wouldn’t have come your way. So, YOU BELONG.”
