The eighth edition of the Lerato Lamola Winter Games is coming to an end

In the semis-Bruno FC will face Al Nassir who eliminated Molototsi 5-4 on penalties, while Ama 2000 will play against TM, and the winners of the semis will lock horns in the finals on the same day.

After a month of exciting, and fascinating kasi-football, the Lerato Lamola Winter Games are coming to an end on July 1st with only four teams remaining in the semi-finals.

The eighth edition of the soccer tournament saw 32 teams face off against one another in a knockout fixture from June 10.

Now only Bruno FC, Al Nassir, Ama 2000, and TM Football Club stand a chance of winning the first prize of R100 000.

The tournament draws thousands of soccer fans from all over Gauteng to the Lord Khanyile Hall sports ground in Ivory Park, where the action takes place every winter.

The tournament director, Ridge Monga Ndlovu, explained that the tournament offers kasi players, as well as soccer lovers an opportunity to compete in a building sport and bring the community to its highest potential.

He said there have been some exciting matches played so far at this year’s edition, but one of the matches that stood out and caught the fans’ attention was the match between Gomora K9 from Alex and the First 11 from Kaalfontein.

The atmosphere in the Lord Khanyile stadium was buzzing as the two teams competed against each other in a highly anticipated last 16 on June 18.

The exciting battle between renowned soccer star Xola ‘Blackberry’ Nkala, and the young talented Gift ‘Chairman’ Kgotso in the middle of the park got the fans on the edge of their seats and very thrilled.

First 11, however, emerged victorious with an impressive strike by Blackberry before they were eliminated 6-5 on penalties in the quarterfinals by title chasers Bruno FC.
