CHOC benefit dinner in Kyalami sees a night of dancing and happiness

CHOC regional manager said this generosity ensures that every single family and child battling cancer in South Africa has a fighting chance.

The CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa held a dinner dance to raise funds for the foundation.

This happened at the Dros restaurant in Kyalami, Midrand on June 4.

Antonella Swanepoel, the foundation’s regional manager in Gauteng said many of their children come from far away rural areas.

“CHOC offers accommodation to the children and their parents. Our home away from home is situated close to the paediatric oncology wards. In Gauteng South, we have a house in Saxonwold, which can accommodate nine children and nine caregivers. We have two houses in Diepkloof that also accommodate ten children and ten caregivers,” said Swanepoel.

She said the foundation is the only organisation in South Africa that provides comprehensive countrywide support for children with cancer.
And other life-threatening blood disorders, and their families.

“Our range of comprehensive support to affected families includes parent-to-parent support. Counselling by a CHOC social worker, and practical support such as accommodation in CHOC houses nationwide, transport, and recreational activities. In addition, the organisation creates awareness, particularly on the early detection of cancer in children, supports health professionals and upgrades treatment facilities into child-friendly environments, and advocates for those whose lives have been affected by this disease.”

Swanepoel thanked Seema Moodley for organising the event and each person that donated so generously during the evening.

She said CHOC is only able to offer these life-changing programmes with the selfless corporate and individual sponsorship and donations they receive.

Moodley said, “When I understood what they did I decided to actively involve myself in fundraising for the organization. I was involved in a tea party to support Cupcakes of Hope and a CANSA Shavathon. That was how I got involved with CHOC.”

Kyalami Dros manager, Nicholas Nefdt, “We as Dros Kyalami would like to take the time to thank CHOC for all the work they do as an organisation. To Seema and Seelen [Padiachy], we thank you for a fun-filled and interesting evening. It goes without saying that an eventful evening is not complete without good company, food, and music. Thank you again for allowing us the opportunity to be a part of such a special cause.”
