Noordwyk resident to host yoga marathon to keep girls in school

All raised during the hybrid yoga marathon will be used to provide girls with the foundation's menstrual cup kit.

Noordwyk resident and founder of the A Million Girls Foundation, Quincy Molope, advocates that teenage girls should have the opportunity to excel in their academic lives without any hurdles.

She does this through her foundation founded in 2021 which aims to keep one million girls in school over the next five years.

This will hopefully be achieved by ensuring the girls did not miss school while on their periods due to a lack of hygiene products.
“More than 50% of girls are unable to manage their period adequately and lack basic hygiene and clothing necessities as they enter adolescence, but we aim to change that so that they can stay in school,” said Molope.

To pursue this mission, the foundation and Olerato Yoga are set to host a hybrid yoga marathon at the Bryanston Market on June 24.
According to the foundation, most of the girls participating in the programme have experienced trauma and yoga is one method they can use to facilitate healing, holistic health, and self-love. Olerato Yoga founder, Lerato Malatjie, will lead the first session of the day.

The foundation not only educates girls on menstrual hygiene but also donates menstrual cups to ensure they stay in school.
Unlike sanitary pads and tampons, a single menstrual cup is safe and reusable for up to 10 years.

Also, Artist Peter Jeke will for the first time unveil the series he has painted exclusively for the foundation, making it possible for art lovers to take one or more of the exclusive pieces home from the market on the day.
All proceeds raised during the hybrid yoga marathon will be used to provide girls with the foundation’s menstrual cup kit which includes a menstrual cup, steriliser cup, size-appropriate sports bra, underwear, and a yoga mat.

The marathon is set to run from 08:00 to 14:00.
