Police arrest two in Kaalfontein for hijacking a truck in President Park

Station spokesperson says items believed to taken during robberies, found in Kaalfontein, will provide valuable assistance.

Two suspects have been arrested in Kaalfontein for robbery after they were chased from Midrand.

The two were part of a three men-gang that blocked a delivery van in President Park, Midrand, on April 21 around 09:00.

Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Captain Bernard ‘Ben’ Matimulane said they diverted the truck driver to Kaalfontein where laptops, batteries, and printers were taken and off-loaded.
Asked the estimated value of taken valuables, Matimlane said, “I am not sure about the value.”

The suspects, aged 26 and 47, were arrested for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and possession of a vehicle-jamming device.

Matimulane said the suspects will be facing charges of the above crimes. “The victim was then dropped in Midrand where he met the local police who followed up. The vehicle that dropped him off was seen later on the day and they [robbers] noticed what was happening, and sped off.” Matimulane added.

“The vehicle used in the robbery and a firearm, and a toy gun were recovered at the time of their arrest. A large amount of the robbed items were found at an address in Kaalfontein belonging to someone whom police believe that can provide valuable assistance. The firearm recovered is a Z88, with 10 bullets, and had its serial number erased.”

Station commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo described this as an important arrest. “All the information and evidence at our disposal will be scrutinised to help us understand what kind of people we are dealing with. Whether they may have committed similar or other crimes somewhere. This is done in order for us to build a solid case,” concluded Ngcobo.

The search for the third suspect and the vehicle used will form part of further investigations.
