Midrand police station commander joins Okae Molao operation

Ward 112 councillor, who was part of the operation Okae Moloa believes there is no 'small crime'.

Gauteng provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela led an Okae Molao operation on the streets of Midrand.

Mawela was joined by Midrand Police Station Commander Brigadier David Molefi Tsotsotso on April 20 and both were present at an internal briefing at the 10111 Command Centre in the morning.
After the meeting, members of the police, Metro police and Gauteng Traffic Department took to the streets.

They started on Allandale Road, before moving to China Mall on the corner of Dale and Modderfontein roads, and the Link Mall to tackle issues of criminality.
Mawela said Midrand was seeing a spike in crime which included house and business robberies, and truck and vehicle hijackings.

“We felt that we need to come to send a strong message to the criminals to let them know that the net is gradually closing on them. Three people were arrested yesterday [April 19] by the Intelligence Task team. The trio were planning to commit a robbery, and the vehicle they were travelling in was taken for further investigation. Inside the vehicle, a lot of car keys were found and jamming devices,” said Mawela.

He said during the operation, 30 undocumented persons were arrested, a bakkie was confiscated after it was found that the Vin did not match the engine number, and a taxi was impounded for not being roadworthy.
Ward 112 councillor Lerato Mphefo who was part of the operation said, “Petty crimes needed to be taken seriously as they eventually turn into bigger crimes.”
