Midrand seniors’ club celebrate 15th anniversary

The Midrnad Senior Citizen Club was formed in April 2008 by Neveda Naidoo with the hope of spending more time with her peers.

Midrand Senior Citizen Club members had every reason to rejoice when their club celebrated its 15th anniversary.

The club gathered at the Midway Gardens clubhouse on April 2.

About 100 elderly people graced the celebrations. During the proceedings, some of the elderly showed energy when they took to the podium to dance while others sang and narrated their stories of the club.

The senior’s club was formed in April 2008 by Neveda Naidoo with the hope of spending more time with her peers. Naidoo did this with the sole purpose of keeping the elderly busy and entertained as they go on various excursion trips.

Addressing the members, Naidoo thanked everybody, including previous members and the current leadership for keeping the ship sailing.

She said it gave her great pleasure to see the club gain more members who come to mingle with their peers to share their happiness together.
“Boredom was the reason why I started the club. Our grandchildren went to school while our children go to work, so I thought it will be nice to spend time with other elders. The club started with about eight members. In 2009, we started to use Midrand high as our venue and started a constitution that birthed the name of our club. Initially, I wanted a different name than the one we are using now. I have got so many memories to share with you being part of this club,” said Naidoo.

The elderly were also entertained by two young dancers who performed for them.
The club chairperson, who was re-elected for the second term on March 26 during the club’s AGM, Logan Pillay, said, “I am honoured and privileged to serve this club of magnificent elders. Celebrating the club’s 15th year means a lot to us. It means we are doing the right thing and there is unity among the team. Hence, we are able to celebrate so many years of togetherness. These celebrations give me courage and fortitude to ensure that the Midrand Senior Citizen Club keeps growing from strength to strength,” concluded Pillay.
