Midrand Crew athletics group in Carlsward Midrand recognise members for best track time

PBs received by members are a motivator for better goals.

Midrand Crew members recently received their personal best-time rewards.

Personal best (PB) track time is an achievement for runners as it helps them participate in national marathons. Members received PBs for 42km while others received it for 21km. Some members joined the crew about a year ago and their hard work helped them be recognised by the team.

Thabisa Matanzima who joined Midrand Crew last year in August expresses how she feels about her personal best. “I am so excited. When Thulani told me I quickly checked my progress and I noticed a great improvement. I am always driven by the quote ‘You are your own competition’,” Matanzima added.

Tumeka Zaula said, “PB is a motivator to wake up to those early morning training, I am happy and motivated to chase my goal which is participating in the Comrades Marathon.”

The team coordinator Thulani Mbele said, “These members broke their personal time and it served as motivation as they want to better their goals in athletics.”

Tumeka Zaula says the medal she received is a sign of dedication.

Thulani said the team worked hard over the past year, at some point they struggled with injuries but they never gave up.

The crew would like to have more members join them. All groups run start at 04:45 weekdays and 05:30 on weekend Those who are able to run 1km, without walking are encouraged to join, and they should know that pace does not matter.
