"It began as a journey for me to lose weight but then turned into my favourite hobby and now it's what I love doing," Katini share how she fell in love with netabll.

Versatile teenage sensation Katini Mciteka lives and breathes netball. The sport she fell in love with while on a journey to losing weight.

Katini is a Grade 12 learner at Midrand High School, who hopes to become a Charted Accountant after completing her studies.
“Academically, I want to be a university graduate as a charted accountant and netball-wise: I want to be one of the best netball players that people look up to. I would love to play netball at national and international level for the Proteas.”

Last year, the sensational Katini received Netball South Africa’s level 1 umpire qualification.
She said since obtaining the umpire’s qualification she has learned how to be stern with what she says. Netball also taught her to be able to speak with confidence.

Katini describes herself as a creative young girl who loves playing netball, listening to music and dancing.
“Arts and culture are also my passion, but I love netball with everything I have. My journey in netball started in primary school when I was in Grade 6. No one inspired me, I just wanted to get back into shape,” said Katini.

She says her family and friends are what motivates her and she also knows that God wakes her up every single day to make a change.

Katini loves hanging out with her friends, either listening to music or making music.

The Netball World Cup is coming to South Africa but will only be played in Cape Town. “I would love to go and watch the World Cup, that’s all my friends and I ever talk about when we are at practice or eating lunch at school.”
