Vorna Valley residents got their hands dirty to clean up Vorna Valley’s Harry Gualan Road.

About seven residents, including Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe and ward committee member for housing, Lerato Myaka joined hands to pick up litter on March 19. Other volunteers were Lehlogonolo Magwede, Ria Human, Lorin Bowen-Petersen, Brian and Colleen Bowen.

They cleaned the road between Albertyn and Anton Hartmann streets. The aim was to ensure that they keep their area clean. It will be an ongoing initiative.
Human organised the clean-up and invites more locals to join future events, hoping for increasing involvement. “This is an ongoing initiative that we will host every third Sunday of the month. We will be cleaning in and around Vorna Valley’s streets to ensure that we keep our area clean.

“We are still working on where we will be cleaning next month and I would like to urge residents to join us.”
She said the meet-up spot is at the suburb’s shopping complex next to a fast-food restaurant at 07:45 for 08:00.
The one-hour operation saw 10 refuse bags filled.

Deppe said the clean-up participants are heroes that need to be applauded for their efforts. “We need residents who want to ensure that the areas stay clean.”
She concluded, “This is a great initiative that needs to be supported by other residents to be the change they want to see.”
