In the spirit of International Women’s Month, we celebrate three inspiring female leaders from The Love Trust.
Women at Nokuphila School work together to ensure that the success of the school is prioritised.
The trio – Mabel Sikhakhane, Felicity Wyche and Michelle Peters – shared the sentiment that working together creates a safe and healthy environment for all learners.
Sikhakhane, the principal, came to the school in 2013 when she was a Grade 2 teacher.
Hard work and dedication ensured her promotion to head of the foundation phase.
She boasts over two decades of teaching experience and huge successes such as heading up the preschool. “Major driving forces behind my career is that teaching is my calling and my will to empower myself by moving into positions of authority to enact the changes that are needed in teaching.”
As principal, her responsibilities include ensuring the smooth running of the school and that the academic curriculum is being adhered to by both teachers and learners.
Sikhakhane says Nokuphila Teacher Training Academy (NTTA) is there to help people reshape their future with education.
Peters joined the school as a volunteer after its grand opening in 2010 as a receptionist.
In 2012, she started teaching Grade R and in 2014 she was appointed as the principal of the preschool until the beginning of 2021. She was appointed as head of training and facilitation at the NTTA.
“I have a passion for developing teachers because I know the value of a well-trained teacher based on my own experience as a teacher and mother. I know that what we are doing here is impacting more than just Nokuphila, it’s impacting children all over the country and in particular, thousands of children in Midrand,” added Peters.
Wyche joined Nokuphila five years ago. She encourages women to work together and knows perseverance is the key to successful leadership. Wyche is the contract administration manager of Nokuphila school.
These women have all walked a different journey with the school but they all started off by answering the call to serve the community.
