Noordwyk soul singer releases Afrosoul five-track EP banger

Former SATMA's Best Afrosoul winner in 2015, Boichoko Qwabe releases a five-track EP to soothe and mend the soul.

Boichoko Qwabe affectionately known as Choko has described her recently released EP as music for the soul, very jazzy, sultry, and soothing with a hint of afro-beats.

Smile is Qwabe’s first Afrosoul EP which has five tracks that were released in late February.
Smile, Nthole Morwalo (take off the burden), Ha Ebe Kgotso (Let there be peace), None E Hlotse (Take time to know them) and Effortlessly are the five tracks found on the EP.

Describing her kind of music, Qwabe from Noordwyk, said she loves songs that speak about love, life, happiness and choices.
“I hope they enjoy every song as much as I did putting them together. It is well received, and most people have appreciated how mature I have become in my approach. In fact, most male listeners adore Track 5, Effortlessly,” said Qwabe.

In 2014, she released her debut Afrosoul album, titled Lerato (Love), with 10 tracks. The following year, 2015, Qwabe received the nod for Best Afrosoul Album in the South African Traditional Music Awards.

She was then nominated alongside the likes of Simphiwe Dana, The Soil, Unathi, Moneoa and others as a newcomer and eventually scooped the top award.

When asked what got her into music she said, “I didn’t choose music. I am such an introvert and I would have never chosen anything that puts me in the spotlight. I was always spotted by my teachers at school and they would choose me to lead songs even at church from Sunday school. I was always chosen to lead. Growing up I wanted better, I wanted to become a social worker.”

She said it is always daunting to work on new material because you don’t know if what excites you will resonate with others the same way.
“Music is expensive to make. Quality costs even more. So having to finance everything by yourself is always a challenge that can also cause unnecessary delays,” concluded Qwabe.
