Former matriculant learner from Noordwyk re-writes matric exam despite pass to pursue medicine career

Ncobile Nkosi says, "What also motivates me to become a doctor is my mom because she is a nurse by profession."

Despite passing her matric with admission to a bachelor’s degree with one distinction, a former Midland Primary and High School learner, has opted to re-write matric with an attempt to add on more distinctions.

Ncobile Nkosi says her decision to re-write is to improve her marks with the belief that it will increase her chances of gaining admission to study medicine.

From Noordwyk, Ncobile (17), said due to stiff requirements in health care, she will be writing during the May/June slot. Ncobile describes herself as an ambitious and driven young lady, who thrives on any challenges that are thrown at her.

She says her biggest motivation to pursue medicine is because of her mother, Idah Nkosi, who is a nurse. “I am also driven by what I want to achieve in life and the medical field. I want to be the change in my family. To do well and be proud of my achievements in life,” said Ncobile.

She says that although sport was not one of her strengths, she has always been interested in modelling, live performances and drama. As a bigger lady, Ncobile could not hide her excitement about modelling agencies that cater for plus-size women like her.

“My love for modelling began in primary when I used to enter modelling competitions. As for live performances and drama, it all began when I was in Grade 5, and we used to visit Joburg Theatre for educational tours.”
Ncobile said she hopes to enrol in more plus-size modelling competitions that will make her an advocate for plus-size women who are suffering from low self-confidence.

She said in the next five years, she would like to see herself as a fourth-year medical student, working towards obtaining her qualification so she can start saving lives.
