Midrand Cricket Club chairperson shares journey to the top

Midrand Cricket Club chairperson joined the club in 2014, looking to play socially somewhere he does not have to travel far to practice, now occupies top seat.

When Molope Molope joined Midrand Cricket Club (MCC) almost a decade ago, little did he know that he would eventually occupy the club’s top seat.

Originally from Rustenburg in the North West, Molope, affectionately known as Lopes, said his family is from Moruleng kwa Rra Molope. His passion for cricket started at seven years old.

Molope, 35, played provincial cricket throughout high school and was head boy in 2006 at Grenville High School.
He moved to Midrand in 2013 after graduating from the University of Pretoria in 2012.

Molope joined the club in 2014, looking to play socially and locally. “I found a great group of gents that became good friends over time. I am drawn to playing cricket at a high level. Even when I was studying, I played premier league cricket for Pretoria Police. After captaining the first team to a premier league promotion, the previous chairman decided to step down, so I decided to take up the opportunity of chairman in August 2022,” said Molope.

He says among his duties, he is responsible for leading a committee, comprised of other players that play a role in making sure the club functions as it should.

Molope said his biggest contribution has been the ability to galvanise the members behind one vision.

MCC is currently in 6th place out of 14 teams in their Eastern Cricket Premier League.
