Watch: Noordwyk inventor seeks funding to help develop traffic calming gloves

The traffic glove inventor says the gloves are also going to assist with the rise of traffic light cable theft that has gained momentum in the city.

Sam Chabangu from Noordwyk believed his new signalling glove invention will help with traffic flow during load-shedding while ensuring traffic controllers are visible.

Chabangu (57) affectionately known as Shabisto, said his idea was to invent hand gloves that will have a green light to signal for vehicles to proceed and a red one to stop.

He said this was also going to assist with traffic light cable theft which is on the rise in the city.

Shabisto, who has been in Midrand since he was born said he would like big companies and government departments to financially assist him.

“First, I padded all the fingers of the glove so that they can be a double layer. After that, I wire them and put three switches to help with the lighting. The glove has lights inside [red] the front of the hand and at the back [green] of the hand to assist vehicles with traffic flow,” said Shabisto.

He said he started with this project in 2017 and he has been stuck as he has no material left. Among the materials he uses, small LED lights for high visibility, switches, and wires which he built from scratch in his small workshop.

Shabisto said that if this invention is successful, it will create jobs as there will be more traffic controllers required.
