The swimming pool complex in Ivory Park is undergoing final touches and is earmarked for opening later this year.
The complex is designed to bring a wealth of opportunities for recreation, fitness, and competition to the communities of Glen Austin, President Park, Ebony Park, and Rabie Ridge.
“With a budget of R42 million, the Ivory Park swimming pool complex promises to offer something for everyone. The complex will feature a range of amenities, including a main swimming pool, a kids’ pool, parking, staff quarters, offices, change rooms, a guard house, and a pavilion,” read a statement from Johannesburg Development Agency.
“It will also have the latest in eco-friendly features such as solar panels for water heating, water harvesting tanks, greywater recycling, and waterless toilets.”
The complex will be a welcome addition to the other developments happening in Region A which includes the Kaalfontein Multipurpose Centre, Ivory Park Public Environment Upgrades, and the Kaalfontein Clinic.
Once completed, the facility will be handed over to the City’s Community Development Department.
Water safety tips provided by Valley Swim Club based in Vorna Valley:
Water safety for children:
- Make sure the pool is covered when not in use.
- Baths, vessels, and other large water containers must always be stored empty.
- Never leave children alone while they take a bath.
- Be sure everyone in your household knows the emergency number to call in case of an accident.
- Make sure the whole family knows basic water safety.
Water safety for adults:
- Advise all guests at your home of the pool’s length, depth, and flow of water.
- Take extra precautions if under the influence of any substances that may inhibit your thinking/reasoning. It is recommended that you do not swim at all.
- Weak swimmers must stay where they can touch the bottom of the pool.
- Avoid swimming alone.
- Supervise children in and around the water.
- Have a fence that is about 1.5m high.
- Never jump into the water to save anyone. Throw them something they can hold onto and pull them out.
- Always enter the water feet first.
