Region A director urges ward committee members to service their wards with aplomb

Land invasion, shortage of land for human settlements projects and illegal connections of electricity, sewer and water are some of the problems plaguing the Region A.

Abigail Ndlovu, regional director of Region A has advised various ward committee members to work hard to ensure that they help with the holistic growth of the region.

Speaking at a ward committee sector workshop held at Halfway House Primary School on February 18, Ndlovu highlighted some issues that have plagued the region and as a result, hindered service delivery.

Among those were land invasions, a shortage of land for human settlements projects and illegal connections of electricity, and sewer and water systems.
She said the region was also working around the clock to find feasible solutions to mitigate against high levels of unemployment.
“Illegal dumping, ageing infrastructure, drug infestation and encroachments remain some of the issues that we face in the region. These are the issues that we, together with the help of the ward committee members, need to tackle and that delay progress of the region,” said Ndlovu.

Region A comprises 15 wards and it is considered one of the most dynamic regions as it borders Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, Mogale City and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
Ndlovu said there was massive growth and development pressure in Midrand, ‘however, infrastructure constraints hamper spatial plans for densification’.
“A holistic approach to spatial transformation to address inequality, poverty, and unemployment is needed.”

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe said, “Ward committee members need to ensure that they fight for their respective portfolios. We are doing this for the badge of the City to bring back work opportunities for the youth while giving service to the people.”
