Midrand Cricket Club wallop Old Benonians at home to move fifth on the table

Midrand Crciket coach believes his charges have been great with their bowling and that's why a player like Kwazi Mathebula managed to take five wickets in eight overs.

Midrand Cricket Club thrashed Old Benonians in an Eastern Cricket Premier League encounter at the Olifantsfontein Sports Grounds on February 19.

Midrand won the game by 31 runs to climb fifth on the log which left coach Vincent Topotsa impressed. Bowler Kwazi Mathebula took 5/18 in just eight overs.

Topotsa said he was happy with how his charges had bowled in their last three games. In all three matches, they have bowled out their opponents for under 100 runs.
“With the bowling, we did amazingly well. Obviously, baby steps with the batting because some of the guys were easily or softly dismissed. It’s not a matter of fixing it [batting] because some players want to wrap up the game quickly, but they end up being dismissed. We were not chasing a truckload of runs so we need to be calm in a game like this,” said Topotsa.

Midrand Cricket Club will travel to second-placed Bedfordview Cricket Club on February 26. “For me, as a coach, going into this game we just need to make sure that we continue with our good bowling attack against Bedfordview. My job is to install calmness and make sure we don’t rush in wrapping the game up.”

He said they had three games left to play and urged his players to take it one game at a time.
