Noordwyk Primary School gets a 10 000-litre JoJo tank donation from IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall as part of its Khumo initiative

The tank can be powered via electricity or solar energy which will supply the ablutions and the entire school with water as and when required.

To assist Noordwyk Primary School during water shortages and outages, IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall recently donated a 10 000-litre JoJo tank to the school.

The tank can be powered via electricity or solar energy which will supply the ablutions and the entire school with water as and when required.

This donation forms part of the campus and the school’s Kid Heroes Under the Mentorship of Others (Khumo) partnership. Khumo is IIE’s Varsity College’s national CSI initiative.

Noordwyk Primary School principal Lynelle Eloff said, “The JoJo tank has already brought such relief. Starting school this year without the worry of sending almost 1 300 students home when there are water cuts truly makes a difference.”

The project involved clearing the site for the JoJo tank, pipe laying for plumbing, laying of a concrete slab to place the JoJo tank, cage installation for the pump to prevent it from theft or vandalism, connection and testing, and then commissioning.

IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall campus head Avadhi Ghela said the college looked forward to continuing its relationship with the primary school so they could continue to support the Noordwyk community. “As [English historian] Thomas Fuller once said, ‘We never know the worth of water till the well is dry’. Being able to support the school with the full installation of the JoJo tank has given us the greatest pleasure and joy,” Ghela said.

“As I stood awaiting the official cutting of the ribbon, looking onto the playground, and watching the joy in the children as they played, I knew there and then that our contribution as The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall will ensure these fun days can be had every school day of the year. With no more no-water days standing in the way of feeding their enquiring minds, we wish the school every success in 2023.”
