Midrand SPCA pleased with some of the local hawking sites after inspection

The Midrand SPCA ended last year doing what they love – standing up for the voiceless.

A proactive inspection was conducted on December 30 at local hawking sites by SPCA inspector Jerry Seemise and general manager Pam Pretorius to ensure the health of the chickens at the sites.

They were pleased to see how welfare conditions had improved at certain sites, and that these sentient animals were provided with adequate shelter and water. “At some new sites, this was unfortunately not the case and a great amount of education and intervention was needed including where damaged cages had chickens sitting on top of others,” said the SPCA.

While the team was inspecting hawking sites, inspector Theo Mokgatle attended to a call of some ferrets stuck in rooms in a house.

After some struggle, Mokgatle successfully managed to trap the ferrets and transport them to Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital where they are now safely in their care.

“Thank you team for another incredible year of preventing cruelty to animals. We appreciate you every day, despite the many challenges faced daily, you continue to stand up for the animals,” concluded the SPCA.
