Love Trust’s Nokuphila School share 2023 sports and academic plans

After being unable to roll-out the Coding and Robotics kits for Grade R and Foundation Phase learners, Nokuphila School hopes to achieve this in 2023.

The Love Trust’s Nokuphila School in President Park said they were able to launch and expand the sport and culture programme for the 2023 academic year.

However, there were still other initiatives and programmes that could not take off and they are now earmarked for next year.
Charmaine Gola, director of fundraising at Love Trust said 2023 will see the opening of the sports field and pavilion for their children to enjoy themselves.

She said their goal was to see the school participating in netball and soccer in the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) district competitions.
“For cricket and tennis be added to our active school sporting codes. We understand that sports in school not only teaches life skills such as teamwork, leadership, accountability, patience, and self-confidence but it also enhances the learning experiences for learners. Through our teachers, we hope for continued academic excellence in all the Grades and subjects,” said Gola.

The donor-funded school rely heavily on donors to execute and expand some of their projects. As such, there was one programme that was not able to get off the ground this year (2022) was the roll-out of Coding and Robotics kits for Grade R and Foundation Phase learners.

“We hope to achieve this in the coming year. For the parents, we aim to enhance their skills through a programme that empowers and supports unemployed parents.”

Gola said the highlight was attaining second and third positions in the Phendulani quiz competition.

The learners were given 10 books each to read in a stipulated period of five months or more in preparation of the competition.
“The competition with other schools took place at Beaulieu College. All participants received certificates and the Nokuphila School received two certificates.
“We also celebrate our three Grade 7 learners being awarded scholarships to continue their school education journey at Roedean School, St John’s College and Christ Church Preparatory School and College respectively,” Gola concluded.
