Sandton Police Station Commander wishes residents a safe holiday

As crime does not sleep, Sandton police Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley alerts his community with the tools to fight crime during the festive season.

With the end of the year approaching, people often forget about their safety and the safety of their belongings. Sandton Police Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley reminds his fellow community members that safety should always be the top priority, especially during the festive season.

Moodley who has been in the force for decades has watched festive crime trends come and go but what remains important to him and his team is making sure that residents are safe even when out.

Festive safety tips:

  • Remain vigilant when shopping, at ATMs and banks and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
  • Don’t drink liquor and drive, rather use e-hailing services or appoint a designated driver who won’t be drinking liquor.
  • Test all alarms at your residences and businesses as well as vehicle tracking devices to ensure that they are functional.
  • Ensure that someone trusted removes your mail from postboxes if you are going away and arrange with a trustworthy person to watch over your property from time to time. An overflowing mailbox is a sure sign to criminals that nobody is at home.
  • Be patient with police officials conducting roadblocks, vehicle control points and crime prevention operations during this festive season since these activities are aimed at keeping the community safe.

“On behalf of the Sandton Police Station, I take this opportunity to wish the community of Sandton a safe, blessed and happy festive season. I encourage everyone to enjoy themselves responsibly and not infringe upon the rights of others,” concluded Moodley.
