Midland Primary and High School (MPHS) principal Sharira Padayachy believes the school has grown significantly this year and they expect more growth in 2023.
As a result, she said more extracurricular activities will be introduced which will enable learners to engage in inter-school sports and educational excursions.
Padayachy said the major highlights of the school in 2022 include the installation of smartboards which enables them to become an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) integrated learning institution.
“Additionally, with Covid-19 restrictions being eased, we were able to allow the full cohort of learners back into our premises, this resulted in an eventful year filled with a lot of learning opportunities and extracurricular activities.
“Teachers and parents can look forward to a continued healthy partnership between the school and themselves. Parents can expect a much more extensive ICT integrated learning approach to be applied, in our attempt to equip learners with 21st Century skills,” said Padayachy.
She said the major low-light of 2022 was the theft of computers from their newly launched computer lab.
Padayachy described the incident as ‘quite a setback in our development as a school’.
“The stolen computers had a detrimental effect on the educators and the learners. Some computer classes had to be halted and this set back the MPHS family. I strongly believe that we will overcome this stumbling block and we will continue to provide quality education. Every year comes with great opportunities and good times. However, along the way, there are a few turbulent roads, but we have managed to overcome them”.
Padayachy said it was because of an outstanding team of teachers that they have, who ensured that the school continues to provide quality education.
“I would like to thank all the teachers for their hard work in ensuring that the year 2022 was a success,” concluded Padayachy.
