Ward 110 councillor Angie Mphaho speaks about issues that ward residents face

To reduce movement and crime, the councillor and the community have come up with the idea of barricaded gates around the area.

The biggest issues Ward 110 residents continue to face in the ward are power outages, cable theft, unemployment, potholes, illegal dumping and informal settlements.

The ward councillor Angie Mphaho told Midrand Reporter that she was aware of all the problems in the area and was working with her committee members to combat these problems and that ‘change is slowly taking place’.

To reduce crime, Mphaho and the community have come up with the idea of barricaded gates in the area which are operated by security guards at specific times. “We also face a serious issue with the maintenance of the roads and stormwater pipes in President Park which results in potholes and flooding which hinder cars’ movement throughout the section,” Mphaho explained.

She said Rabie Ridge was plagued with drug abuse where a high percentage of youth were addicted. “I am working hand in hand with the Community Policy Forum and the police to fight the drug dealers but there is no hope of change.”

Mphaho has partnered with the South African National Civic Organisation to help with community development. “So far I am really happy to have a governable ward where community members can still help me fight against issues instead of blaming me as their leader of the ward. I am very grateful for the cooperation we have in the ward.

Every month, the councillor hosts community meetings at The Biker’s Church in President Park and the date for the November meeting is still to be confirmed.
