Education experts visit Reddam House Waterfall

Cristian Fabbi's purpose for the visit was to attend and speak at an Early Learning Development seminar focusing on, changing the landscape of early childhood education in South Africa and Mozambique.

The President of Reggio Children Cristian Fabbi, accompanied by Tessa Browne of the Africa Reggio Emilia Alliance, visited Reddam House Waterfall.
The duo was welcomed with excitement by Reddam’s early learning learners on October 25.

Fabbi’s purpose for the visit was to attend and speak at an Early Learning Development seminar focused on, ‘changing the landscape of early childhood education’ in South Africa and Mozambique.

Dr Bev Evangelides, the headmistress of the early learning school, said Fabbie and Browne’s visit sparked great delight in the Stage 5 class as he (Fabbi) joined the children to explore with their teacher in the Main Atelier.

Dr Bev Evangelides, Cristian Fabbi, Tessa Browne, Angela Dos Santos and Sarah Browne at the school’s playgrounds.

“The children took Cristian [Fabbi]on a tour of the Main Atelier, the Spekboom Garden and the Treasure Trove. Together with the children, the teachers have collaborated in creating a Treasure Trove full of various creative media of natural and man-made materials such as clay, colourful pieces of broken tile, paper, fabric, light, beads, repurposed goods and leaves among others,” said Dr Evangelides.

She said Reddam’s early learning has been in the process of putting together a purpose built Atelier that extends beyond the classroom to the surrounding natural environment. “Having access to a space like this encourages the children to have meaningful experiences with these different materials and to be involved and participate in their own learning.”

Over 300 teachers from South Africa and Mozambique participated in the seminar and connections were made through school visits while sharing of knowledge and stories.
