Vorna Valley interim committee holds a successful vlei walk

Vorna Valley Residents Association interim committee member speaking on behalf of the commiittee, Colleen Bowen said, it was important to preserve nature for future Vorna Valley generation.

The Vorna Valley Residents Association’s (VVRA) interim committee held a walk through the Vorna Valley Vlei.

The two-hour walk was held on October 23.

Speaking on behalf of the interim committee, Colleen Bowen said another walk was planned in a few months’ time and it will be interesting to see what has changed in the area.

“Paul Veltman, interim committee member, led residents through the vlei, pointing out various birds, trees, both alien and indigenous. Another member, Mark Straw, took photographs for the history books. It is so important to keep records of nature for our future Vorna Valley generation,” said Bowen.

She said a group of Scouts from 1st Halfway House and Jan Smuts joined the walk and collected garbage. “This was part of the work toward their community service badge. All in all a fun and interesting two hours were spent by 21 walkers and were joined by some residents who popped over their walls for a chat.”

Hawkeye Security supported the interim committee and kept the walkers’ cars safe by sending two reaction officers to keep a watch.
