Local Bolt driver speaks on the importance of e-hailing

E-hailing taxi services have become one of the major players in the public transportation sector.

According to Bolt’s website, the explosive growth of on-demand transport apps has fundamentally changed how we move.

The past decade has seen the emergence of ride-hailing and pushed it firmly into the spotlight.

A local bolt driver, Kamogelo Mokgoba, said e-hailing services are exclusive to each rider, as the vehicle is not shared, and people do not arrive late to their destinations as a result of frequent stops.

“E-hailing taxi services have become one of the major players in the public transportation sector,” said Mokgoba

“Despite being convenient, generally well-regulated, and safe, the e-hailing taxi industry is also occasionally plagued by crime and attacks against drivers and passengers.”

Mokgoba said it is important that riders be careful when seeking a ride because some drivers use other drivers’ e-hailing profiles as their own to commit crimes.

“Before getting into a car, riders should check their app for a driver’s rating. It is easier for riders to decide whether to proceed or cancel their bookings with some apps that have a rating system for their drivers.”

Although Mokgoba is not a full-time e-hailing driver, he earns ‘enough’ from Bolt, particularly on weekends, so he can help support his family and take care of himself.

“Besides the important services that we provide, such as 24-hour transportation services where there would otherwise be no public transportation, we also get to make ends meet as most of my friends who are also Bolt drivers use this (e-hailing) as their sole source of income,” said Mokgoba.

Moreover, e-hailing provides a safer alternative to drinking and driving, since it is illegal for individuals to operate a motor vehicle or motorcycle while drunk or intoxicated.
