Endangered Wildlife Trust staff receive footwear donation from JCB Safety Footwear

The donated footwear will give the field officers the confidence to step up when needed to save species.

The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) promotes the conservation of wildlife in the wild as functioning components of natural systems.

This means that the trust’s staff members often work in rugged terrain and under extremely challenging conditions.

To make their work in such a perilous environment safer, members of the JCB Safety Footwear visited the trust at its Conservation Campus in Glen Austin on September 28 to donate safety boots to all the trust’s staff so they can continue walking the path of conservation.

Grant Segal, JCB Safety Footwear sales executive highlighted how the premium range of footwear will give the EWT field officers the confidence to step up when needed to save species, conserve habitats, and benefit people.

Conservation canine (K9) handler, Sean Kelly put up a demonstration of how they are ā€˜walkingā€™ to combat the illegal wildlife trade and the importance of fieldwork in conservation.

Kelly explained the importance of training and deploying the Conservation K9s to detect wildlife products and track poachers, ultimately reducing the threats that the illegal wildlife trade poses to many species.

ā€œHandlers often find themselves tracking for hours on end in the bush and having shoes that can allow us to keep up with our K9s is essential,ā€ said Kelly.

The EWTā€™s wildlife and transport field officer, Ndifelani Mulaudzi, also appreciates how comfortable the shoes are after spending hours wearing them.

ā€œWith JCB Safety Footwearā€™s generous contribution to conservation, the EWT team will continue to walk tall and travel whatever path necessary to save our Endangered Species,ā€ said Mulaudzi.
