The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall students dress for success

Students walk the red carpet showcasing what to wear and not to wear in the working environment.

The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall recently hosted their Dress for Success event to support students preparing for their careers.

The campus’ career centre hosted the annual event where students walk the red carpet showcasing what to wear and not to wear in the working environment.

The experience also allowed learners to gain a better understanding of what they can expect once they finish their studies and enter the workplace.

Otsile Lefete, a third-year IIE Bachelor of Commerce in Strategic Management student, described the event as a fun and interactive way to inform students about how to dress professionally.

There were nine students nominated, and Lefete was one of them. The nine students were divided into three categories which include formal, smart casual, and what not to wear.

Students had to walk the runway and answer a few questions with the chance of winning some amazing prizes. With over 20 entries, students went the extra mile with their outfits.

“I was part of the formal wear category and wore black pants, a black top, and a pink and gold jacket. I chose to wear pink because my intention was to show and empower women to wear colour in the office and to challenge the stereotype that pink or bright colours are controversial in that environment,” said Lefete.

Each student was judged on confidence, professional attire, and ability to answer questions.

They were asked to define what professionalism meant to them and what brand they want to create for themselves when they start working.
