Writers and producers seek local actors for new drama series

Cast members, preferably young and old from communities, are still needed, as well as two female directors.

Unlike a television series, a YouTube series is uploaded online and gives viewers the chance to interact in the comment box and give it a thumbs up or down.

This means the success of each episode and the entire series is out there for the world to see.
Putting it out there are local writers and producers Edwin Makhubela, Simphiwe Jack-Mabaso and Thegivenboy Sithso who have created a YouTube drama series, Compassion.

The series aims to give aspiring actors in the Midrand community and surrounds a platform for growth and prepare them for mainstream opportunities.

The first season will include 13 episodes. One episode will air each week on Friday on 4EverStream TV YouTube channel.

Simphiwe Jack Mabaso is a multi-talented writer, actor, and singer who has featured in Rhythm City.

Among the issues covered by the drama are gender-based violence, power and greed, the drug trade, crime and corruption. The storyline revolves around a drug kingpin who learns that his daughter is addicted to drugs.

Mabaso said, “We live in a society which is full of greed and hate, violence arising within the families and
schools, with no one explaining how we got here.

“As far as we believe that a drama or story is a reflection of who we are, how we behave, and how we react to certain issues, it is important to address the topics or issues that slowly kill our society.”

There are still vacancies for cast members, preferably aged between 19 and 40 from local communities, as the writers are aware of the challenges local actors face in developing and growing their craft. Two female directors between the ages of 20 and 40 are also needed.

“In this male-dominated industry, we see a need of playing a part by developing a female creative team who wish to take filmmaking as a career. An ideal director must have at least two movies under their belt or be a film student at a college or university.”

Details: Those who wish to audition for the drama can call the producers on 081 377 2284.
