Young learner from Glen Austin High receives award

Grade 10 learner believes helping her peers comes from a good heart and she did not expect any reward from the school.

Grade 10 learner of Glen Austin High School Minenhle Shelembe assisted with first aid during a sports day through the goodness of her heart.

However, little did she know that her effort would be rewarded by the school principal Berhold Moyo who bestowed Minenhle (16) with a voluntary certificate in first aid.
“I helped with the first aid during a sports day at the school and when it happened that some of our learners were getting injured, I volunteered to assist. So I was carrying the first aid kit, supplied them with water and ensuring that I gave them a helping hand when they really needed it,” said Minenhle.

Minenhle said the award had made her show more interest in emergency assistance and could only reward the school by giving help to those who are representing the school in athletics.

Asked if she would do it again Minhle said, “Yes, I do not mind helping because I am doing this from the goodness of my heart. If we do have another sports day, I would not mind helping because I am not a sports person but I can definitely help.”
