Locals situated around Sandton were given the opportunity of a lifetime to witness cricket greatness at the Sandton Action Sports Arena between three big teams.
Team manager of the Indoor Cricket South Africa squad Lance Terner surprised locals by organising a set of friendly indoor cricket games on August 26. Taking centre stage or in this case, the pitch, were the players from South Africa’s indoor cricket team, Imperial Lions and the Titans.
with the Titans for two years now and it’s been a great journey. My biggest highlights of the evening was seeing all the smiles on people’s faces and helping out the South African squad prepare for the world cup,” said the bowler of the Titans, Aya Gqamane.
By the third game of the evening between SA and Lions, the facility was jam packed with cricket fanatics cheering and shouting with excitement. Terner shared his main views of why the event was such an important factor to the development of indoor cricket in South Africa.
“It’s been a fantastic evening, we have had so many people coming, watch and enjoy the atmosphere. I would love to thank Jono Leaf-Wright from the Lions and Jacques Faul from the Titans. When I approached them with this idea they completely got on board. Our aim is to generate more interest in the sport, get the word out there that the world cup is coming up, and most importantly, to prepare for our future competitions.”
The evening ended with the SA squad playing against a collection of both Titans and Lions players which many enjoyed.
