Pan-African Parliament Women’s Caucus to host annual conference for women

The Pan-African Conference on Women’s Rights will focus on women empowerment and inclusion in governance.

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Women’s Caucus is set to host a conference on women’s rights in October at Gallagher Convention Centre.

The aim is to afford women from across the continent a platform to review women’s issues and will focus on women empowerment and inclusion in governance.

Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus, Amina Tidjani Yaya said women played a significant role in many aspects of the African continent.
“We are looking forward to having this special time dedicated to women and we are committed to seeing this conference being a success and coming up with a tangible roadmap. The platform will afford us a chance to interrogate initiatives for economic empowerment and also discuss how we can have gender-sensitive budgets even in our national parliaments,” said Yaya.

The conference will build the capacities of the women for an in-depth understanding of the recent continental and international commitment of AU Member States to address the empowerment of women.

Issues to do with fighting poverty, governance and legal protection will also be discussed at the conference. Tools on mentoring the youth, men and women, to be champions of gender equality and women’s empowerment will also be on the table for debate.
