Midrand SCF 3 wary of increasing criminal activities and car accidents

During the month of August, Midrand Sector 3 Crime Forum recorded the most car accidents on Lever Road and the R55, according to the forum's chairperson, Marvin Maphiri.

Midrand Sector 3 Crime Forum is concerned with an increase in street robberies and property-related crimes.

Sector chairperson Marvin Maphiri said there was also a rapid increase in car accidents on the R55 and Lever Road due to blatant ignorance of the road rules.

Regarding street robberies, Maphiri said joggers and workers had been victims.

He appealed to all community members to remain vigilant while travelling at night or in the early hours of the morning.

“The statistics are not looking good. Property-related crimes, hijackings and theft of motor vehicles are on the rise. We noted out of reported cases that [some] community members park their vehicles on streets overnight or unlocked inside their unsecured yards,” said Maphiri.

He said this behaviour contributed immensely to the bleak crime statistics affecting all suburbs, especially Crowthorne and Blue Hills.

Maphiri said the forum carried out six patrols in August.

“We encourage all community members including women to volunteer and contribute so we can have frequent patrol sessions.”

Meanwhile, the forum welcomed five additional executive committee members.

These were Keri Swart as deputy secretary, Kineuwe Ramashala (fundraising officer), Indria Narain (stakeholder engagement officer) and Dinesh Sookdeo (information and communication technology officer).
