Disc golf champs crowned in Kyalami

Chairperson of the Disc Gold Championship Bart Meulenbeld encourages everyone, irrespective of their ages, to give it a try.

Thirty-nine players participated in the 2022 South African Open Disc golf championship which was an increase of 50% compared to the previous year.

The championship was held at the Inanda Country Base disc golf course on September 3.
Event organiser and chairperson of Disc Golf South Africa NPO, Bart Meulenbeld said this was an indication that the sport was gaining popularity.

“We are working hard to get new courses set up all over the country in the next two to three years. This was the first tournament in South Africa sanctioned by the PDGA, the sport’s world governing body, and as a result, the participants will receive official PDGA ratings,” said Meulenbeld.
He hoped to see South African players competing in the Disc Golf Professional Tour in the near future, representing the country in overseas tournaments.
