Boulders Shopping Centre rooftop parking was a tempting place for shoppers on August 6 and 7 when a Rooftop Market was held there.
The market was organised by Frans Mahommed and his colleagues of Kgantso Holdings. They approached the centre with a request to host the market again after it had not been held due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Mahommed said it was ‘a little present from the organisers to vendors to help them recover’.
“Midrand is located in the fast-paced growing metropolitan area and Boulders is the centre of that in servicing this clientele that is forever longing for activities that are unique, hence, this rooftop market at the centre,” said Mahommed.
A lot of exciting activities took place at the market including arts, fashion, a beer garden, music, and a big screen to watch English Premier League soccer games.
“Our market is not short of activities as we always try our best to theme them, like the previous potjie competition and live sports streaming.”
He said their love for food and entrepreneurial support motivated him and his team to start these markets in 2018.
He added they were always looking for sponsorships especially those who could assist with LED screens, benches, and branding among others. Currently, South African Breweries brands, Castle and Budweiser are sponsors.
“This is the only market I know off where stalls are free of charge,” said Baile Ntsoena, one of the stall holders.
Another vendor, Labious Masike of Lamas’ Smoke Kitchen said the market allowed him to launch new products and test their feasibility.
The organisers thanked stall holders, the centre’s management and its staff, South African Breweries, friends and families, and the community for being part of the market.
Details: Those who need stalls at the next markets can contact the organisers on 071 046 0790 or 079 148 1061.
