Indlovu FC knocks nine-man Real Supers FC out of MLFA pre-season tournament

The reigning MLFA champions continued to look more threatening but were wasteful with their finishing.

Midrand Local Football Association champions Indlovu FC is up for a double silverware of the season after advancing to the next round of the association’s pre-season tournament.

Indlovu FC beat Real Supers FC 4–3 on penalties after their first match of the pre-season knockout tournament ended in a 1–1 draw at Rabie Ridge Stadium on August 20.

In an entertaining match, Indlovu started strongly as Glen Kgodu went close to breaking the deadlock, stabbing his first-time effort wide from an in-swinger cross.

Indlovum had much of the ball possession as Sipho Gwaqubana thought he had put them in front after 23 minutes but his close-range finish was saved by the Real Supers keeper after a splitting defence back heel pass from Gift Mmola.

Indlovu was later caught sleeping by Real Supers striker Sikelela Jonisile as he converted a one on one against Indlovu keeper Lebogang Nqola following a weak pass from Lephoto Thato to Agaregate Maluleke.

Indlovu put the pressure on in the second half, but Real Supers’ keeper continued to thwart them, brilliantly saving Shanen Boysen’s effort.

However, Indlovu was awarded a penalty after a reckless tackle by a Real Supers defender and Boysen calmly converted from the spot making it 1–1.

Real Supers skipper Kizito Mpondori and his keeper were shown red cards by the referee after they contested that the penalty was wrongfully awarded.

Indlovu pushed for a winner but nine-man Real Supers held on to go to penalties.
