City Power and Mayibuye residents sign memorandum of understanding

Residents of Mayibuye have urged City Power to prioritise residents when it comes to general labour jobs.

City Power senior officials signed and accepted a memorandum of understanding with the Mayibuye community in Midrand’s Region A.

The agreement was signed at a public meeting in Mayibuye on August 6.

The community had organised the meeting with City Power management and spoke about their concerns over the supply of electricity in the area.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said for the process to take place without any challenges both parties agreed on various issues.

He said some agreements included that City Power repair old infrastructure and instal new electric boxes (meter boxes and street lights).

“[We need to] build a functional walk-in service centre, increase network capacity and reduce hours of load reduction, deploy a security company to safe guard infrastructure and implement expanded social package (ESP) for unemployed residents.”

Mangena said the power utility needed to employ local residents for general labour and contribute to the well-being of the community through corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Acting manager in the relationship management department Tshepo Chuene said the community agreed that the utility can switch off electricity for the whole area and not through sections, so that they (community) can start paying on an equal footing.

“City Power commits itself to render good quality service to residents as mandated by the laws of this country and in return residents of Mayibuye have committed to comply with the by-laws of the Metro by paying for its services, in this case buying of electricity.”

In the event that City Power fails to fulfil the above-mentioned stipulations the process of normalisation will be halted.

City Power is in a process of normalisation in Mayibuye.

Normalisation takes place when there are existing issues that put strain on our infrastructure leading to overloading and trips that cause prolonged outages.
