Waterfall City encourages fitness fun this winter with the first Waterfall City Half Marathon

The half-marathon event caters to all racing levels, from the novice to the regular, with a 5km fun run, 10km, and 21.1km race options available.

Waterfall City is giving its community the chance to get their blood pumping at the first fully-fledged Waterfall City Half-Marathon on August 7.

Hosted by Waterfall City Athletics Club in association with Attacq, Waterfall Management Company, and Mall of Africa, the half-marathon forms part of this year’s Central Gauteng Athletics race calendar, alongside events like the Comrades Marathon.

Last year’s inaugural half-marathon was successfully held as a hybrid event that offered participants the opportunity to run virtually or along the race route.

This year’s event will be fully in-person, starting and finishing at Waterfall Park, giving participants the chance to connect with the vibrant Waterfall City community while getting active.

In line with its commitment to promoting a healthy and socially responsible lifestyle, Waterfall City AC has partnered with Discovery Vitality to enable Discovery members to earn between 300 and 1 500 vitality points, depending on the distance they enter.

For an added dose of motivation, the cumulative prize money across all distances and categories is R26 500, and thanks to incredible sponsors including Attacq, Waterfall Management Company, Mall of Africa, Panamor, Bombela, ASICS, and Athi Health and Fitness, race entrants will receive generous goodie bags and stand the chance to win a range of other great prizes.

Alongside promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, Waterfall City AC believes in giving back and is proud to offer entrants the opportunity to use the half-marathon to do good while having fun.

The club is utilising the race to fundraise for charities based in Waterfall and its surrounds. Funds will also be used for the club’s development team members, most of whom come from disadvantaged communities.

Entrants have the option to make a cash donation upon registration or to donate non-perishables or personal care items on race day.

For those who prefer to watch from the sidelines or just want to support a loved one taking part, a delicious food market at Waterfall Park will be available for all to enjoy a fun-filled family day.
